“Twinkies“ and “The End of An Era”

MAY IS SUCH A JOYFUL MONTH! The showers give way to flowers and a true sense of ordinary time. I mean by ordinary time, the ability to PAUSE and enjoy the fruits of your labors. In the Meyers Household that means four May birthdays on two days. (Literally labor!) I have such a feeling of TRUE anticipation for the future in May. Enjoy the labors of your garden, cooking for others and friendships. I want to acknowledge my friend and always friendly competitor Mary Merola, who conceived, loved and babied her wonderful store, Function Junction. I remember living in my tiny studio...
The Godfather 1, 2 and 3

I love cooking and entertaining, BUT my all-time favorite meal to prepare is a Thanksgiving feast. Thanksgiving is all about the food, family and friends, no stress of gift giving, rather the gift is the food itself. I could cook a Thanksgiving meal in my sleep because I prepare a turkey every two months. It is comforting, economical and you can utilize turkey in dozens of delicious recipes. Turkey is a perfect companion with Mascarpone cheese in a layered lasagna. I have often thin sliced sweet potatoes and lightly roasted them and use in replacement of lasagna noodles. I always...

Pryde Passing
Posted by Louise Meyers on
Pryde Passing It's been awhile since I’ve written you… My sweet and precious Mother Constance Pryde Perucca passed away on October 3, 2022. She was 87 years old and co-founder of Pryde’s. I was four years old when my parents were “cooking” up Pryde’s in 1968. They brainstormed at our expansive round table in our avocado green and sienna orange kitchen envisioning a store like a smaller version of Emery, Bird, Thayer Dry Goods Company. They imagined a store that had something for everyone. It reminds me of my Las Vegas customer, Marie Traub, who said “Pryde’s has nothing...
Simple Tasks...A tribute to Lynn
Posted by Louise Meyers on
I was doing a daily necessary simple task.....sweeping my store on Wednesday morning before we opened. Preparing my store for whomever walks in the door is a comforting learned joy for me. My mind wandered to my longtime co-worker and friend, Lynn Heitman who passed from this temporal life in the night from complications of a subarachnoid hemorrhage. You may remember Lynn, a constant, seated at the marble table pricing in the back apron/oilcloth room. Lynn started working at Pryde’s when I was in 8th grade (43 years ago) and literally on and off for years has priced just about everything...
A Candle to Light the Way....

I’ve always had a thing for the ballet. My Mother Connie “Pryde”, who was a wonderful artist in her own right, instilled this early love of different music genres and movement in our family from a young age.I will always remember the sheer magic and edge seated exuberance of seeing The Nutcracker for the first time and the eye opening New York reality of A Chorus Line as a teenager. It wasn’t until I had two daughter dancers in the span of twenty years that I truly could appreciate their drive and work ethic for even the most minute correction striving...
